Deputy President William Ruto has asked the Lands ministry and the National Lands Commission to speed up issuance of title deeds to genuine land owners to curb conflicts.
Speaking at Ngeria Girls High School in Kapsaret, Uasin Gishu County at the weekend, Ruto said the national government was concerned over the rising land conflicts, some of which he said had resulted in fights and even deaths.
He said that issues touching on land were sensitive and that the national government was working to issue title deeds to genuine land owners.
“We are concerned as a government by the rising land conflicts in Murang’a and Uasin Gishu counties as well as other parts of the country,” he said.
The DP said the government has deployed land surveyors across the country to resolve some of the land conflicts.
Ruto said that some of the land conflicts date back to three decades ago.
He asked Kenyans to be careful when making land transactions to avoid such conflicts that relate to ownership.
The DP also asked relevant government agencies to intervene in the conflicts and ensure they do not result in war.
“The Lands ministry and NLC must intervene in these conflicts and provide the right direction,” he said.
