There was drama in at a residential estate in Naivasha on Monday after police acted on a tip off to impede a mission to help recover a stolen motorbike.
According to eyewitness accounts, trouble started five days ago after a motorbike belonging to one Mr Dan Lichuma, a tenant was stolen at night from the estate and efforts to have it back have not yielded any result.
“He threatened to travel to Uganda and get the services of a medicine man that would make the thief ‘eat grass’ if his bike was not recovered by Saturday,” noted Mr Moses Gitwamba, a care taker.
True to his word, Lichuma travelled over the weekend and come Monday morning, the medicine man was setting up his paraphernalia for action before police arrived.
A majority of the residents say that they had tried to talk to Lichuma to use the relevant authorities in tracing his motorbike in no avail as he doubted the possibility of the thief being an outsider vowing to let the perpetrator “act as an example to others.”
“He blamed an inside game plan from us (members of the estate) saying that one of us took advantage of his drunken state to facilitate the theft,” the caretaker explained.
Naivasha OCPD Mr Titus Munyoki, called on residents to make it a habit following the right channels and avoid using uncouth means to deal with crime.
“Why use traditional means while we have very able, professional and willing officers at your disposal?" he posed.
He reassured them of his commitment in ending crime saying that if they could embrace community policing, Naivasha would be a very safe and secure place.
Lichuma who declined to speak to the press has vowed to teach the thief a lesson with the police taking over the matter after following several leads.
The two are locked at Naivasha Police post pending investigations, but Munyoki said they will be taken to court for causing disturbance at a residential place.
