A middle-aged man caused panic early Thursday morning at Daraja Mbili in Kisii Town, after he scaled on a tree and threatened to commit suicide.
The un-identified man is said to have got to the tree with a rope at around 6.00am, and was first spotted by children going to school who raised an alarm to the traders who had already arrived at the market.
The incident attracted a big crowd that persuaded him to abandon his mission in vain, prompting police to be called in, but the man still turned down their requests to come down.
The man, who kept making calls on his mobile phones, claimed that his wife had become a bother, and he had decided to commit suicide to end his misery.
The man, however, came down after Gesonso police station officers, led by Officer on duty Daniel Kariuki, promised not to arrest him but instead take him to a counseling centre.
However, things almost got out of hand after the man came down and members of the public tried to ‘discipline’ him, accusing him of being manner less, forcing the police to fire in the air as they whisked him away to Gesonso police station where he is being held.
