The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) will deal with county governments that engage in corrupt deals, chairman Mumo Matemu has said.

Speaking after opening a forum on criminal justice response on corruption at a Nakuru hotel on Thursday, Matemu warned that the anti-graft body will not spare county leaders implicated in corruption.

He said the commission is carrying out a survey to establish the state of graft in activities being carried out by counties.

Matemu added that they are working with other agencies, including the Auditor General, to review financial documents in all counties across the country.

“We have already surveyed 20 counties. We want to stamp out corruption both at the national and county governments,” he said.

The chairman, however, observed that for the war against corruption to be effective, state agencies mandated to fight the vice must work together.

He noted that the commission has taken a step ahead in investigating individuals and organisations linked to corruption scandals. He cautioned that no one will be spared in the war against illegal deals.

The forum was held in Nakuru at a time when the county senator, James Mungai, and Governor Kinuthia Mbugua are at loggerheads over accountability in county spending.
