Uasin-Gishu County Deputy Governor Daniel Chemno has asked the Communication Authority of Kenya (CA) to ease the procedure of issuing broadcasting licences.

The deputy governor made the request saying it would help a lot especially in easing communication between various counties.

He said that the current regulations deny many people an opportunity who would want to open media houses.

"By now every county should have its own radio station. What we are asking the CA is to fast-track the issuance of radio and TV frequencies and make it easy for us," said Chemno.

Chemno said that by counties having their own broadcasting stations, it will make communication more efficient. The outspoken Deputy Governor also asked the CA to repossess idle frequencies that individuals applied for but do not use.

"Let the CA cancel those frequencies and give them to those who are ready to utilise them," he said.

Chemno was speaking in Eldoret town on Thursday where a radio station was celebrating one year of broadcasting.
