Head teachers from Borabu district have been warned against staying away from school as the teachers strike ends its second week.

This is following reports that most schools have remained closed even after schools reopened.

Speaking on Thursday during a meeting with teachers, Calvin Onyiego said the ministry of education would fire school heads violating the order to remain in school.

He said his department will make impromptu visits in all schools to ensure classes were ongoing as usual even as the war between teachers unions and TSC persisted.

“We all know our responsibilities as school heads. We must stay in school in whatever circumstances and whoever defies the order will be sacked. We don’t want a situation where our schools remains closed even after the directive from teacher’s employer that everyone should resume work,” Onyiego said.

He said school heads should remain focused to ensure performance of their respective schools improved as the national exams approach.

“We are approaching exams and our district is among the worst performing in the region. Children can do private studies under your supervision and that is why it’s important that you ensure students are in class. I will lead my officers to carry out impromptu checks,” he said.

However, most schools remained closed on Thursday with Borabu, Kipkebe, Mogusii and Mwongori primary schools leading the pack.
