There was drama yesterday in Eldoret town after one developer accompanied by youths chased away county askaris and workers who were hired to renovate the former official house of the mayor of Eldoret by Uasin Gishu government.
The developer, Hosea Ruto ordered the ejection of the workers and askaris who were guarding them alleging that he is the real owner of the plot and had documents to prove his ownership.
The county government has plans to convert the house to a media centre and a recording studio.
"I bought this property in 2003 through Chebii Advocates and Company at a cost of Sh1.6 million. I have all the documents to prove all the transactions and am ready to provide them for verification," said Ruto.
Uasin Gishu government is however keen on repossessing the property.
After the askaris were ejected and Ruto and his gang blocked the gate to the property, the county government sent more askaris and a bulldozer that flattened the stone fence to gain access.
"We want to repossess all the properties sold to private developers by corrupt officials of the former Eldoret Municipality. All the public property that belonged to the local authorities has to revert to the county government," said Peter Lelei, the County Secretary.
