Uasin-Gishu County Agriculture CEC Cyril Cheruiyot has asked farmers in the area to embrace Genetically Modified Organism (GMO) farming saying that it is more efficient.
The CEC who was speaking at a Farmers' workshop on Thursday in Eldoret town said that it is good for farmers to embrace crops that take short time to mature to be able to fight hunger in the area.
Union "We should encourage our farmers to plant crops that give them quick results. Farmers should be able to earn income after two or three months", said Cheruiyot.
At the same time Christopher De Vloey, a farming expert from the EU said that Uasin-Gishu County has a big market in the EU and therefore a need for the farmers to embrace modern farming that gives them better results.
"First we appreciate the tea that comes from Kenya and that is why we are eager to have products that come from Kenya and in this area particularly", said De Vroey.
The event was organised by the Uasin-Gishu County government, Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Service (KEPHIS) and European Union.
