Naivasha Sub-County residents have been urged to embrace the Nyumba Kumi initiative to help solve the insecurity problem in the area.
According to the Lake View MCA Wanyoike Wanango, the recurring cases of insecurity was proof enough that the residents had to put in more personal effort arguing that relying on the police alone would not offer a lasting solution.
“Your security is supposed to be your responsibility, solely waiting for somebody else to come help you live in a secure environment is a close minded way of thinking,” he said.
He cited a recent case where a local supermarket was broken into last week and the watchman murdered before being dumped on the road leading to the area police post.
“Let us use the chief and village elders to come up with Nyumba Kumi committees that will spearhead security patrols here. By doing this, I am sure that those who engage in crime will be easily tracked and arrested,” the MCA advised.
He called on the county commissioner to beef up security in the area saying that people who were living in estates along the highway were being attacked by getaway robbers who managed to escape easily.
“The state of security in Kayole and other estates along our major highways has really gone down. We are therefore appealing to the county government to help us beef up security,” he added.
Wanango also seized the opportunity to call on the Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) to erect bumps along the Nakuru-Nairobi highway to help deal with the increasing number of accidents caused by over speeding vehicles.
