Naivasha referral Hospital Medical superintendent Dr Joseph Mburu has called on the police to help minimise the number of motor cycle accidents by being ensuring strict adherence to traffic laws.
Mburu noted that the number of casualties being admitted on a daily basis was not something to ignore.
“We are alarmed at the high numbers of accident cases being handled at our facility,” he said.
He says the number of accidents in the area has necessitated the hospital to open a ward specifically meant to handle casualties related to the issue. He says better measures should be put in place to remedy the situation.
“We have a full ward dedicated to handling these cases because some of them have serious fractures that need regular check up,” he added.
This comes barely a day after Naivasha CID boss Martin Mbayo cautioned bodaboda operators against overloading.
“We have had very many accidents due to the operators’ recklessness and we are not going to sit back and see this trend continue,” said Mbayo.
He called on residents to work with the police in ensuring safety and sanity in the sector.
“Why do some people agree to be carried on an overloaded motor cycle?" he asked.
“It’s simple, one passenger one motorcycle should be the order of the day and I foresee an accident free Naivasha,” he advised.
Dr Mburu was speaking on the sidelines of a county senior doctor’s consultation forum held at the hospital’s boardroom on Thursday.
