Chiefs and their assistants have been urged to enhance their public barazas so as to effectively tackle social issues affecting their locations.
Addressing chiefs and their assistants from various locations within Kiambu County on Tuesday at the County Commissioner’s boardroom, Kiambu County Commissioner, Esther Maina said her office had noted with concern that they were slow on public barazas, which are essential for addressing serious issues.
“You should enhance your monthly public barazas especially those locations near trading centres and towns. This should be your platform in engaging with the public, and so you should make use of them. Issues like suicides, family disputes and land cases can be addressed and kept in check,” said Maina.
The county commissioner cautioned chiefs against absenteeism saying it impacted negatively on their performance and recommended they forward their monthly programmes to her office for close monitoring.
“It has been noted that some of you do not report to work. Some of you have the element of chronic absenteeism and we want you to send your monthly programmes to our office which will assist us in supervising your work,” said Maina.
She further hailed the administrators' relentless effort in the fight against illicit brew, a menace that had proven to be a thorn in the flesh in the recent past.
Maina noted the vice had slightly reduced and urged all county stakeholders to work together and completely eradicate it.
