Uasin Gishu County Deputy Governor Daniel Chemno has urged parents in the region to enroll their children in polytechnics to fight unemployment.
Speaking in his office on Saturday, Chemno said that students enrolling in polytechnics is the remedy to the unemployment rates that have risen among the youth, and that polytechnics increase skilled human resources and open opportunities for employment among the youths.
"Through enrolling your child in a polytechnic, the vocational training offered there will equip youths and locals in general with the necessary skills and knowledge to employ themselves thus improving their livelihoods," he said.
Chemno reiterated that the Uasin Gishu County is determined to fully invest in building at least one polytechnic in every ward, since the institution provides quality education that create innovators who are creative job creators.
"In this financial year, Uasin Gishu County government has sponsored 600 students to pursue vocational training at the Rift Valley Technical Training Institute at a whooping Sh3,000,000 million where each student will receive Sh50,000 for them to pursue their dream," he added.
He added that after the students have completed their courses, Uasin Gishu County government will absorb them as their employees.
