The Teachers Service Commission's failure to pay teachers their September salaries has been faulted by education stakeholders in Kisii County.
Former Kenya Union of Teachers National Treasurer, Fred Ontere criticised TSC for subjecting teachers to suffering by failing to remit their September salaries as directed by the court.
Speaking on Tuesday at Gusii Stadium during Mashujaa Day celebrations, Ontere described the move as intimidating to the teachers as they continued enduring a lot of challenges posed by lack of finances.
Mr Ontere regretted that, denying teachers their pay and reprimanding them to be in school was demoralising during this difficult economic time witnessed in the country.
"It is wrong for the teachers' employer to subject them to economic agony by denying them their September salaries as directed by the court and expect the same teachers to concentrate in class," Ontere lamented.
The ex-trade unionist asked Kisii Governor James Ongwae to use his position in the Council of Governors to petition the government to reconsider its stand on the September salaries, saying it was intimidating and demoralising to the teachers of Kenya.
