School heads from Limuru Sub-county have been reminded to register their schools with the County Education Board in Kiambu before the deadline scheduled for November 2015.
In an interview at his office on Friday, Limuru Sub-County Quality and Standards Assurance Officer, Benson Kimani said the Ministry of Education had established County Education Board to keep track on all schools operating within a single county.
He said that other roles of the Board would be to act as a supervisory body over the activities being conducted by schools within the region.
Kimani said the deadline set for November was to enable the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) to counter check and confirm the number of schools that have registered pupils to sit the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE).
He said the move will help reduce the incidents of pupils and students whose names usually end up missing from the list of candidates sitting the national examinations. The officer said that only head-teachers from public schools were required to do so as private schools were already registered during the process of acquiring a certificate of operation.
Kimani explained that currently, it was quite difficult to point out the number of public schools operational within the sub-county and the county at large as the registration process had not taken place for a long time and new schools continued to be established.
He said the school heads only required an introductory letter from the offices of the Ministry of Education in Limuru to be taken to the County Education Offices in Kiambu, after which their respective school would be put in the database of schools in the county.
Kimani was optimistic that this initiative would make the management and monitoring of schools easier. He lauded the school heads who had already gone through the process of registering their schools and asked those who had not yet done so to register their schools on time before the deadline in November to avert the last minute rush.
