Two people who were arrested last week for allegedly being in possession of fake Kenyan currency notes were on Wednesday arraigned before a Kisumu law court to face the charges.
Timothy Okome and Ernest Ogetto however, denied the charges before Kisumu Chief Magistrate Lucy Gitari for the offence they allegedly committed in May 27 in Kisumu.
The court heard that on the material date, Police detectives received a tip-off that the two accused were booked at a lodge in the city and were allegedly in possession of suspected fake notes amounting to Sh25,000.
On raiding the room, Police recovered 200 darkened bond papers cut into notes size resembling Kenyan currency which is believed to have been used in making the notes.
The two told the court that they were in Kisumu to make transactions with a Tanzanian national whom they said had supplied them with the fake notes.
They claimed to have met him in Tanzania where they said they had gone to collect his imported vehicle. However, the prosecution told the court that the two had earlier been arrested with the same offence but acquitted due to lack of enough evidence.
Magistrate Gitari released the two on a cash bail of Sh10,000 each with surety of a similar amount pending the hearing of the case in July 28, 2015.
