Songs and dances took centre stage for the better part of today (Thursday) in Mwongori village, Borabu Constituency as residents turned out in large numbers to welcome a kin who has been in the war torn Southern Sudan.

Speaking to this writer on Thursday, the family members led by Jackson Onkoba expressed their delight after Ms. Jane Onkoba, who was working as a communication consultant returned home following one year of communication breakdown.

According to Ms. Onkoba, she went off air following the skirmishes that marred Donovan State as forces loyal to President Salva Kiir fought to control the region that had been taken by rebel group loyal to former Vice President Riek Machar.

"It was a traumatising experience but I am happy to be back home. I had established Cable Communications in Donovan before war erupted making many of us to flee for our lives. It was tough but I am happy I got refuge at a UN camp," said Ms. Onkoba.

She said it was difficult to seek refuge at the Kenyan Embassy in Juba and hence chose to take shelter in the UNHCR camp as the war persisted.

"Fighting was intense and no one could even dare to travel to Juba. A few colleagues of mine and I decided to take refuge at UNHCR camp before we found our route to Northern Uganda,” added Ms. Onkoba.

Chepilat Ward MCA Alfayo Mwongeresa urged President Uhuru to do all within his jurisdiction to ensure normalcy returned in the African youngest nation.

"I am happy that one of our own has finally come home. It is essential that President Kenyatta and his East African colleagues do all they can to ensure S. Sudan is safe because our people want to explore business opportunities there," proposed MCA Mwongeresa.
