Three people from the same family died on the spot while another is recuperating at the Molo sub-county hospital after the motorcycle they were riding on was hit by a trailer along the Nakuru–Eldoret highway.

According to eyewitness accounts, the driver of the overloaded motorbike who was father ferrying his three sons lost balance veering into the road resulting to the accident.

The early Wednesday accident led to a partial jam along road before police came in to restore normalcy.

Residents accused motorcycle operators for flouting traffic rules saying that the accident would have been avoided if the operator had not overloaded.

“The bodaboda guy was overwhelmed by the weight, four people on one motorbike is too much,” Agnes Kainenia noted.

“I almost became part of commotion because I was on coming from the opposite direction. I swayed off, plunging into a ditch but luckily escaped unhurt,” she added.

Confirming the incident, Molo OCPD Job Lesikinwa confirmed that the accident was as a result of overloading.

“Our boys have proven to be ignorant because they keep on endangering their lives with what can be avoided. It’s simple, follow traffic rules and this phenomenon of loosing lives through carelessness will be avoided,” he said when he visited the scene.

He further noted that a crack down will be mounted to help flush out all non compliant operators from the road.

The bodies of the deceased were ferried to Molo sub-county hospital morgue.
