A family of a teenage girl who is said to have been abducted by unknown people near Kipkebe estate when walking home a week ago has urged the national government to chip in and help them rescue their daughter.

Speaking to HiviSasa.com on Tuesday after a family meeting, they admitted that the issue was now out of their hands since they have exhausted the resources in travelling to different parts of the country to try their luck.

They said that the kidnappers have been asking for a ransom of Sh300,000 and they have been using different networks to communicate with the family members.

“My daughter was kidnapped and it has been a week since then. We have exhausted resources and therefore we cannot trace her any more. The kidnappers have been asking for money, an amount that we cannot afford. However, it is also difficult for us to reach them,” said Mr Evans Mokua, the father of the daughter, whose name we cannot reveal.

According to them, area police from Chepilat station have done little to help them solve the puzzle and related the incident to the retirement pact Mr Mokua had received from Kipkebe Tea estate.

“The police have been very reluctant to help us solve the issue despite reporting it. I think the kidnappers targeted the little amount of money I received from the company following my retirement,” he added.

Speaking in a separate event, area chief Mr David Ogega said the government will ensure the girl is rescued in ‘time’ and perpetrators brought to book.
