Livestock farmers in Kiambu county have been urged to take preventive measures to prevent their livestocks from contracting diseases that occur rampantly especially during the rainy season.
Speaking in Kiambu town, the veterinary officer in charge of the department Mr. Samuel Njuguna said that the country is expecting heavy rainfall which provides good condition for parasites to flourish. He added that ticks and other parasites do increase in number during the rainy season thereby subjecting animals to the risk of getting diseases.
"Livestock like cattle, sheep, goats and donkeys are the most likely animals to be affected by diseases during the wet season so their owners should be on high alert," said Samuel Njuguna.
He further advised farmers to spray and administer routine vaccination on their animals as it is the most effective way of preventing diseases.
Mr. Njuguna also cautioned the farmers that if they failed to vaccinate or exercise other preventive measures, it may lead to poor health of the animals or even death.
