Following predictions of El Nino rains in October, farmers have heeded advices to harvest early to avoid crop damages from the rains.

“I don’t want to suffer any loss this year. I have thus decided to harvest early. My children are also at home due to the teachers' strike so I take advantage of the available labor meanwhile as the government solves their differences,” said Mr Charles Omondi, a farmer in Lela.

NASA has warned on an impending El Nino which they say the country has never seen in the last 40 years where the government has advised farmers to harvest early to avoid loses.

“It’s a waste to harvest early but it is better than losing everything,” says Mrs Joyce Awino a farmer.
