Small scale coffee growers from Nyamonya Farmers Co-operative Society in Sameta Sub-county who benefited from the Coffee Development Fund (CoDF) loans have been warned against hawking their coffee beans.

The farmers were advised to deliver their coffee to the co-operative society to facilitate recovery of the loans.

Nyamonya FCS Chairman Mr Moses Oroko warned members against hawking their coffee to middlemen and brokers, reminding them that such a move will lead to defaulting in repaying their loans from the CoDF.

Speaking to this writer at Nyakegogi shopping centre, the society’s headquarters, Oroko decried cases where some members from the society engaged in coffee hawking after benefiting from loans, making it difficult for the financial institutions which lent them the loans to recover their money.

"I am warning members who benefited from the CoDF loans against engaging in illegal coffee hawking to middlemen. They should ensure they deliver their produce to the co-operative society to facilitate Wakenya Pamoja Sacco Society which was channelling the loans to the members to recover the loans from their coffee payments," said Oroko.

Oroko clarified that, the management was concerned with the move by some members who are selling their coffee to middlemen.
