Farmers in Kiambu County have been urged to explore foreign markets for their products in a bid to reap more profits.
Mount Kenya University sales and marketing head of department Jane Nyokabi says most farmers especially those in remote areas, aim at selling their produce locally which is not well paying compared to international markets.
Speaking on Monday at the university's education hall, Nyokabi said MKU was willing to second its students on attachment to international marketing groups to help them improve their operations.
She hailed the students who he said can help change the marketing and agriculture sector in Kenya if funded to explore sweeter markets internationally.
“Kenya depends on small-scale farmers to feed itself and youth should venture into farming and further look for better paying international markets to reap better.
Anthony Mugo, a business administration lecturer, urged youths to forms groups and cooperative societies so as to benefit from the Kiambu government’s funding.
‘We have a group called With Unity Youths Can, which originated from this institution. The members have grown into a cooperative after massive eminars and boosts by this school. They are now self-employed and contributing greatly to the economy,” he said.
“You can also get there if you are determined and ready to work with us even as you leave school,” Mugo told the marketing students who are completing their course this semester.
The two lecturers spoke at a seminar to 351 business students who are completing their diploma course in various business fields.
