Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor Daniel Chemno has lauded the ongoing fight against illicit brews and alcohol, saying that it will help restore order in society.

Speaking to the press at his office on Thursday, Chemno said that consumption of illicit brews has for a long time caused pain and agony in communities, and at the same time hampered development.

Chemno said that recent directive by President Uhuru Kenyatta to get rid of the brews will help in the fight against the illicit alcohol.

He noted that some parts of Uasin Gishu have been on the spot in regards to the manufacture and sale of such brews.

“The ongoing crackdown on illicit brew is the right step towards guaranteeing law and order in society,” he said, adding that the Uasin Gishu government will support the fight.

He noted that alcohol abuse and consumption of traditional brews is high in some parts of the county, and urged law enforcers not to relent and make sure that all illegal brews are destroyed.

Meanwhile, County Commissioner Abdi Mohammed on Wednesday told reporters that the crackdown on brews will continue until when all brew dens in the area are destroyed.

He asked the public to help the police identify brewing dens so that action can be taken.
