Residents of Nyamira County have been challenged to desist from persistently blaming the county government on alleged corruption by certain officials stationed in different departments, and instead take the responsibility of fighting the vice collectively.
Speaking in his office on Monday when receiving a group of Japanese investors, Governor John Nyagarama faulted residents for blaming the county government and insisted that they too had a responsibility to make Nyamira a habitable place.
Nyagarama accused his opponents of politicising the fight against corruption, besides warning county employees against engaging in corrupt deals.
“I have been receiving criticism on matters pertaining corruption, but it’s important that the residents know that they too have a role to play. We have the giver and the taker therefore; it’s two way traffic. The issue has been politicised and that isn’t fair because it jeopardises efforts to fight the menace,” he said.
Nyagarama urged residents to report any attempted corruption or bribery to relevant authorities, rather than watching the vice take place.
“Most of the residents are aware when a corrupt deal is about to happen and that is why I insist that they should report the matter to relevant authorities. If we have that smooth collaboration from the members of the public, we will be able to fight the vice,” he added.
Recently, three county executives were compelled to step aside, following a revelation by the auditor general’s report on alleged misappropriation of funds.
