Fishing farming is gradually becoming economic heartbeat amongst the Kisii residents, whereby the county fisheries department in recognition of the farmers’ efforts in promoting the venture has introduced various fish varietieswhose economic returns to the farmer will be felt much early due to their short period of maturing.

Disclosing the good news to the farmers on Wednesday at the Kenya Farmers Training Centre (KFTC) Kisii branch, during the training workshop, the Kisii County fisheries director, Edwin Muga, said that they have already put out the two varieties of tilapia fish, the mono sex type and that of the cat fish, and urged the farmers who have interest in fish to capitalise on the opportunity of getting the information first and reap high.

He added that, the tilapia breed matures within a short period and one can easily realize his profit since it is easy to rear them thus farmers can rest assured of positive returns if they only change the attitude.

The director challenged the farmers who attended the training to refrain from common notion amongst the people that one can not succeed in farming and urged them to venture in multiple farming projects like fishing, plants and animal rearing as a way of boosting the economic venture in case one fails to break through.

The event was prepared by KFTC in partnership with an international company The Syngenta East Africa Company, where various farmers made their by buying various fish varieties plant and other disease control chemicals from the company.
