Five students are being held at Kikuyu Police Station after they were found with materials that suggest that they were cheating in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary examinations.

The three girls and two boys from Hope Secondary School in Ondiri were found with folded papers hidden in their private parts when Biology paper one exam was on going.

This happened when one of them was found using the paper in the exam and the invigilators conducted a quick search once again after suspecting cheating was going on. The other four were discovered after the search.

The supervisor of the exam centre Mr Micheal Kioko said that the five were cheating during the exam and they were stopped from continuing with the exams.

"We have handed them to the police who were guarding the candidates during the exam and they are now at Kikuyu Police Station. We are disappointed because it is a four year journey that just gets ruined because of a mistake that they have been warned more than enough times," said Kioko.

Confirming the incident, Kikuyu OCPD Mutune Maweu said that cases of cheating were common among students in the recent years. He said thisbwas the first incident in this year’s exams.

He said that cheating in the national exam was a crime and punishable by law. Maweu said the five will be charged for their offence accordingly. He, however, mentioned that he expects minimal cases of cheating this year.

He called on teachers and school heads to counsel their candidates against the offence as it also brings a bad reputation to the entire school.

"I send a warning to all candidates against cheating in national examinations and also to those residents who might be luring students by selling them cheating material," said Maweu.
