The county government of Nyamira may lose a lot of revenue after residents of Manga in Borabu constituency threatened to boycott paying of taxes due to the reported poor state of the main road in the region.

Speaking on Tuesday to Hivisasa.com, the residents led by Mr John Mogusu accused the county government of taking unnecessarily long to renovate Nyansiongo-Manga road, making it hard for them to transport their products to the nearby markets.

They said the road had exposed them to irregular fee by transporters making them to incur double losses hence making it difficult to get optimum results from their produce.

“We are really struggling to transport our farm produce to the nearby markets due to the poor state of the road. The county government has failed to renovate the main road despite promising to do so. We will not be remitting taxes if the state of the road remains in that condition. We deserve more from the taxes we pay monthly,” he said.

According to them, moving from Manga to Nyansiongo, a distance of 10km that could initially take at least 20 minutes would take over an hour due to potholes and poor maintenance.

"We used to take less than 20 minutes to travel to Nyansiongo but the case is now different. The road is badly damaged and something serious ought to be done. Otherwise no one should bother coming to ask for tax payments,” Mogusu added.

This comes barely three months after Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama promised to expedite renovation of the road during Deputy President William Ruto's visit in the region on June this year.
