Olkaria Member of County Assembly Peter Pallan’ga has asked the government to investigate cases of exploitation of flower farm workers by employers in Naivasha.

Speaking to reporters in Naivasha town on Friday, the MCA alleged that some flower farms in Naivasha are exploiting their workers.

He said that he has been receiving complaints from workers who are being exploited and harassed.

Mr Pallan’ga alleged that some workers have not been paid for months and are also working in poor environment.

“I have received several complaints from some flower farm workers who say that they are being exploited and want to ask the government and relevant workers unions to investigate this,” he said. The MCA said that no employer has the right to mistreat his or her workers.

He said that investigations into the claims must be conducted and the truth revealed. The MCA wondered why the flower farms could be mistreating workers who are helping them to mint money.

He asked workers to report cases of exploitation to enable the government take action.

Mr Pallan’ga noted that most workers are suffering in silence.

“You (workers) should not suffer in silence, it is your right to speak out,” he said.

The MCA also wants the government to be conducting audits on the flower companies to ensure that they conform to the industry regulations.
