Ford Kenya on Friday concluded a two-day retreat at a Nakuru hotel where they called for the government to avoid tribalism in public appointments.
Led by party leader Moses Wetangula, the party’s parliamentary group, Members of County Assembly and party officials, the party also called on the government to deal with insecurity and the declining economy.
''We will hold major rallies in all the big towns in Kenya to show all Kenyans how corrupt and selfish this government is. We don’t need permission from anybody to do that," Wetangula, who also serves as the Senate minority leader, firmly said.
The party leaders also denounced the appointment of county commissioners by President Uhuru Kenyatta, saying it is an affront to devolution. The officials said they will continue pushing for the provincial administration to be genuinely restructured in line with the devolved system.
The team also said that for a national dialogue to take place, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) should be disbanded first.
Wetangula promised to rebrand the party through grassroots elections before the end of the year. This is as the party gears up for the next general election.
The party is part of the Cord Coalition, which has been calling for National Dialogue with the government to address the major issues facing the country.
