A section of former councillors in Kisii County have asked the government to charge clerks in the defunct local governments over misappropriation of assets and liabilities.
Speaking on Wednesday in Kisii cultural hall during a public participation forum during presentations of unaudited inventory of assets and liabilities of the defunct local authorities, the councilors, led by Patrick Siro of Masongo ward, said the clerks have a case to answer over the grabbed assets.
He suggested the report of the corrupt individuals to be put open so that they can be charged in a court of law.
“I was a councillor and a mayor at one time but I can tell you here that the clerks are the ones who were involved in recommendation of ownership of assets. They were powerful comparing to elected leaders. They should be started with if transparency and justice is anything to go by,” said Siro.
His sentiments were hailed by then Bobaracho ward representative Lucas Ongaki who said the clerks should be arrested for misappropriating Latiff funds that were meant to help in development programmes.
