Nyamira County leadership is yet again under pressure after a renowned politician and once a one-term MP threatened to lead area residents to demonstrate against alleged massive corruption and nepotism in the county government.
Speaking on Tuesday at Gesima, former Kitutu Masaba MP Mwancha Okioma, who finished fourth in 2013 gubernatorial elections, said the county government had failed to deliver on its mandate, citing the agricultural sector and the youths as the most neglected.
He accused the county government of failing to embrace public participation in planning for projects in the county besides calling for resignation of underperforming county executives.
“It is now embarrassing to live in Nyamira. The leadership is quite myopic and they have contravened the constitution in a number of times. Nepotism in the county is real and so as corruption. The governor has failed to incorporate wananchi for development,” he said
According to him, the planned demonstrations will be a good avenue for the people of Nyamira top say ‘enough is enough’ to the leadership and come up with an amicable solution to the people of Nyamira.
“We can choose our own destinies and this is the right time. The agricultural and youths sectors are wanting and we don’t want to continue waiting for change. We will demand it because we deserve a share. The Governor must be ready to answer all questions regarding shoddy development, remember the impassable feeder roads also,” he added.
