Nyamira County has urged former Kitutu Masaba MP Walter Nyambati to quit politics and focus on improving the services offered at the Jomo Kenyatta Foundation.
Speaking at Riooga village during a fundraiser on Wednesday, teachers, led by Kenya Primary Schools Heads Association Gesima branch chairman Charles Bosire, said the former MP was in a good position having been appointed by President Uhuru Kenyatta to lead the foundation to deliver on education.
According to them, the continued stay in the political field, having expressed his interest to recapture the parliamentary seat might jeopardise the education system in the country given the foundation is critical in developing the education system.
"It is not our intention to call for retirement of Nyambati but the nature of his job is wanting and that is why he has to keep off politics. The foundation is sensitive in the education system and therefore it will be justice for him to give politics a break,” he said.
They vowed to present a petition to the president in a bid to compel the former legislator to yield to their demands if he refuses to accept the call.
“We have an option of presenting a petition to the President if he refuses to yield to our calls. However, we believe he is a reasonable man and he gonna give it a second thought.
However, the former legislator’s personal assistant Erick Nyambati termed the move as ‘malicious’ an urged the teachers to desist from engaging in partisan politics by ‘infringing’ the former legislator’s political rights.
