Four people among them a school girl, have died while eight others were injured after they were involved in an accident along the Meru-Nairobi highway.
The accident that occurred on Friday night, near Blue post hotel in Thika involved a lorry that was transporting sand and a Public Service Vehicle (PSV).
The accident caused congestion on the highway for almost two hours before the police intervened and brought things back to normal.
Confirming the incident, Thika traffic police base commander Appeles Chacha said that the accident also affected seven other vehicles that were caught up in the congestion.
He added that the lorry driver lost control of the vehicle and ended up hitting the vehicle that was next to it.
The commandant noted that the area has been prone to accidents lately and the congestion experienced in Thika junctions is the main cause of the accidents.
He said there is need to fast-track the reduction of the congestion through construction of the proposed Thika by-pass.
He called on the road users to be cautious while on the roads saying that people should be careful while driving now that the road is overwhelmed by traffic congestion.
The bodies of the deceased were taken to Thika level five hospital morgue while he injured are nursing injuries in different hospitals in Thika.
