Four men have been charged in court with beating and causing serious injuries to a suspected thief.
The four accused; Brian Kagoni, Stephen Okumu, Noah Mashaka and Clinton Okundi Ochieng pleaded not guilty to the charges before Justice Lucy Gitari won Wednesday.
Justice Gitari remanded in custody the four accused until July 10 after the prosecution successfully objected their bail application on grounds that investigations into the matter were not complete and the victim was still admitted in hospital.
Circumstances into the matter are that on May 10 at Kachok dumping site in Kisumu, the quartet intercepted the theft suspect Kevin Owino who had allegedly stolen two motor vehicle tyres from a nearby local garage.
They then allegedly took the law into their own hands and began assaulting Owino several times using open hands, wooden logs and other crude weapons.
As a result of the assault, he sustained serious head injuries and was admitted at the New Nyanza General Hospital on the same day after being rushed there by good Samaritans who discovered his body.
The four were arrested on the May 12 at their respective places of residence in Kisumu.
