A 31-year-old man was on Wednesday arraigned before a Kisumu law court for allegedly defrauding a women’s group of Sh65,000.
Maurice Wainaina denied the charges when he appeared before chief magistrate Lucy Gitari for the offence allegedly committed on the July 7 this year in Miwani, Kisumu.
According to the prosecution, the accused was hired by the Dot Com women’s group to assist them in getting a incubator as he was a dealer.
He asked them to provide Sh65,000 for the incubator that was supposed to be delivered on August 1 this year, the court heard. Wainaina was given the money in cash on July 7 after an agreement was struck.
On August 1, the accused is said to have disappeared and could be reached neither on phone nor at his Mamboleo home.
The women group reported the matter to the police who launched a man hunt for the accused as there was word that he was still in Kisumu.
He was arrested September 13 at a Kisumu supermarket.
He was released on a cash bail of Sh50,000 with surety of a similar amount pending the hearing of the case later this month.
