Dairy farmers who are members of Kagwe Dairy Farmers Co-operative Society will henceforth benefit from easy transport of their produce to Fresha Dairies Limited.
This was after the company offered to make available a truck that will be collecting farmers’ milk from their Kagwe depot to the company’s plant in Githunguri.
Under the company’s promotion motto “Shinda na Maziwa,” Fresha Dairies will ferry the milk from Kagwe in Githunguri sub-county at a subsidised rate with a view to help the local farmers compete well in the market.
Society’s manager Mr James Juma said on Thursday that the Sacco produces slightly above 550 litres per day adding it had a huge potential since it is the only active dairy Sacco in Kagwe. He was speaking in his office in Githunguri.
“Our only challenge has been getting means to reach the market with our product,” said Juma. He thanked Fresha management for the gesture.
Juma said the new truck will go a long way in attracting new membership for the society as farmers will now not face difficulty in transporting their milk to the market.
He said the Sacco had entered into a partnership with Fresha Dairies on August 20, an undertaking that will help the society address the problem of fluctuating milk prices.
He noted that farmers in the region had for a long time been frustrated by the lack of market for their milk leading to huge losses.
The official also appealed to the county government to consider providing them with other necessary facilities to enable them to deliver as expected.
