Juja environment officer Mr Richard Irungu have warned Gachororo residents against dumping in the drainage saying it could be one of the factors that contribute to flooding.
He said this while addressing traders at Gachororo market on Monday afternoon when they made a field visit with the sub county health officer.
He said the area, being a slum, could be one of the areas expected to be affected by the heavy elnino rains.
He said that the area has been prone to flooding and asked the residents to create way for the water and demolish any structures constructed along the water drainage
He said that the residents will be safe if they adhere to what they are told and stop giving excuses since their lives are worth more than the houses they live in.
He said that Kiambu County is ready for the rains and will be vigilant in all the areas to monitor the safety of the residents during the rains.
“We have made proper arrangements on how to deal with any calamity in our county and this is the reason that we have attended this meeting to inform you that we must cooperate with the officials and also make ourselves ready to face the heavy rains. We don’t want to rush when it’s too late but we want everybody to take part in clearing the drainage system and prevent dumping in the drainage,” the officer said.
