The Chairman of the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Prof Phillip Kaloki has announced that the newly opened Gatundu KMTC will start by admitting students this month. Speaking at the facility located next to Gatundu Level Four Hospital on Wednesday, Kaloki said that the KMTC board resolved to open a college in the area in an attempt to train more health workers.

"When the President Kenyatta appointed me to head the KMTC board, he did indicate to me that Kenya is facing a shortage of more than 40,000 health workers,” said Kaloki. “

"He asked me to ensure that we train more health workers in order to bridge the big gap that currently exists. Opening of this facility has been informed by this need,” he added.

Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria who was present promised to support the school till it gets on its feet.

"As we all know, the health sector has been facing a myriad of challenges among them being deficiency of health workers. Having a KMTC here is a priviledge and we will support it till it is able to train as many health personnel as possible,” Kuria said.
