Farmers in Gesima Ward want the management of Nyansiongo Tea Factory to speed up the construction of a proposed tea factory at Matunwa.
Riakingoina Tea Farmers Association chairman Atera Makori while speaking on Tuesday at Riakingoina market said completion of the tea factory will ease the processing of leaf product.
He said many farmers have no where to sell their tea.
“As farmers we urge the management to start building the factory because farmers voluntarily offered land that was approved by the Kenya Tea Development Authority," he said.
He said the development of the factory will provide employment of opportunities to area residents.
Former Council Osebe Mosigi was among the residents who voluntarily gave their land for the development of the factory.
“We gave out our land because we knew this investment would come and help us," he said.
"The time for the investment is now."
He said the completion of the factory will improve the economy of the residents.
