A section of aspiring members of county assembly from Gesima ward in Kitutu Masaba constituency have asked the area MCA to call for an open debate to discuss the development and achievements that that have been realised to date.

Speaking at a funeral ceremony in the ward on Wednesday, three aspirants asked Ken Atuti to embrace the debate, saying it was the only way forward to ease political tensions that have hit the ward, two years to the 2017 general election.

They said the debate will give not only aspirants but also area residents a chance to air their views on the mode of governance and development agenda they want for their ward.

“We are asking Mr Atuti to call for a debate so that we get a chance to have a common development plan for our ward. This will also give area residents a chance to assess what has already been done and give a fair critique to the effect,” said Mr Osebe Nyambati.

They said the demand should not be confused with a political contest for them to show their political might but strictly ensure it was for discussing matters development.

“We should ensure that the debate is strictly for discussing the welfare concerning our people. No one is interested with politics and the MCA must know that,” added Mr Charles Maroko.

However, Mr Atuti dismissed the call and accused his opponents of hampering his development agenda by calling for ‘political debates’ which he was not ready to attend.
