School teachers from Gesima zone in Nyamira have a reason to smile after area education officer lauded them for having never been involved in questionable conduct on a teacher-pupil relationship.

Speaking on Friday at Nyabuya primary, area education officer Robert Obiria said he was overwhelmed by the fact that his teachers respected the law and various codes of conducts as per the Teacher’s Service Commission.

He challenged teachers from different parts of the country to emulate area teachers as a move of promoting good social behavior following rampant cases of children being defiled by their own teachers in various regions across the country.

“I am really overwhelmed by my teachers. I have been guiding them for a number of years now but I have never had any of them being implicated for having defiled or attempted to defile a child. This is a brilliant move and I call upon their colleagues around the country to emulate them,” he said.

Mr Obiria promised to soon launch social functions that will see teachers meet their pupils and discuss contemporary issues among them HIV and Aids besides having a debate on sexual education among the young ones.

“Promoting good morals in our institutions doesn’t really mean coming up with a Bill to teach our children on how to use contraceptives. Children can be taught on how to behave and respect themselves by their own teachers and that is what I am yet to do,” he said.
