The residents, led by Douglas Ogari protested in the area saying that they will not accept the dumping of waste in the area, noting that they already have dirty sewage water, and could not put up with the dumpsite.

The residents said they had to present their pleas, noting that article 35 of the Kenyan Constitution gives them access to information, and were not served with proper information on the same, saying they learnt of the move from a local newspaper.

The residents also said that article 33 of the Kenyan Constitution gives them the right to give their views, adding that they have not even been consulted by the county government.

“We are here to represent our people and to say no to the proposed dumpsite project at Gesonso. We got the information on the dumpsite project from the Daily Nation and we are saying no to the project because we already have one here and the sewage is not even maintained,” said Ogari.

The county government of Kisii has been looking for land to put up a dumpsite, and it had found one at Gesonso but the residents are now opposed to it.
