Kisii county women have been asked to take advantage of this month’s breast cancer awareness campaign to be screened.

Kisii nominated MCA Josephine Ombati, famously known as ‘Richibu’, urged women to volunteer in large numbers for breast cancer screening that is ending later in this month.

She noted that most people are aware of breast cancer but they forget to take the steps to have a plan to detect the disease in its early stages and encourage others to do the same

She was speaking on Sunday at Keumbu social hall during the fundraising for Nyaribari Chache Maendeleo ya Wanawake.

Ms Ombati said the climax of the breast cancer awareness will be on 30th October, 2015 at Kisii University.

“We will match from Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital to Kisii University grounds where the climax of the breast cancer awareness campaign is slated to take place. I ask my fellow women to turn out in large numbers so that they can be screened for the disease,” the MCA appealed.

She added: “A healthy woman is a health society and nation at large. We must use this opportunity to be screened so that we as women can know our status. Early detection will help in treatment of the disease before it gets into secondary stage.”

October is national Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is an annual campaign to increase awareness of the disease.
