Getenga sub county boda boda operators in Kisii County have today been given free training by road safety officials courtesy of the area MCA Ronald Morara Onduso.
According to the MCA he has set aside 4 million to be used to train all boda boda operators in the county on road safety in order to reduce risks of accidents.
Speaking during the launch of the training early today, Morara said the training will go a long way in helping the motor-cycle operators acquire skills that will help improve road safety.
Morara said that the programme targets all boda boda operators in the entire ward and soon he all the boda boda operators in Kisii County wards will receive the training since he is planning to table a request in the county assembly for more funding in his project.
He added that the programme was necessitated by the fact that most of the boda boda operators were untrained and hence were a major course of road accidents within and outside the county.
“Most of the operators could not develop economically despite working tirelessly from the fact that they were constantly on a collision course with police officers for breaking traffic laws and had to part with their days earnings,” said Morara
He also urged the boda boda operators to save after every day job for this will enable them invest in other areas.
