As the country gears up for the El Nino rains starting this month, residents of Giasaiga Sub-Location in Sameta Sub-County have been asked to register for the government's free insect treated mosquito nets to protect themselves from malaria.

Area Assistant Chief, James Mogo has directed village headmen from his jurisdiction to ensure all residents within their areas of jurisdiction are registered to benefit from the government's free distribution of mosquito nets to protect themselves and their families against malaria during this El Nino season.

Addressing a public baraza on Wednesday at Kenyoro Health Centre, Mogo warned beneficiaries of the nets against selling or using them for activities which are not related to malaria prevention and response.

"I am warning anybody who will receive the government's free Insect Treated Nets against selling or using such nets for purposes which they were not intended for. I have witnessed cases in the local villages where some of you receive the nets and instead of using them to protect yourselves and your families against malaria attacks, you use the nets to fence your vegetable gardens and making chicken cages," said Mogo.

Mogo challenged the village headmen to intensify surveillance in their areas of jurisdiction and identify all those beneficiaries of the nets who are misusing the nets and have action taken against them for going against the government's objective of distributing the anti-malaria nets for free to the citizens.
