A Nakuru court on Monday heard that the illegal dumping case against Nakuru Town East MP David Gikaria is on reconciliation stage under the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

On July 29, Gikaria was accused of dumping solid and liquid waste on a public highway on different occasions between July 11 and July 16 within Nakuru town.

Gikaria on October 19, the MP urged the court to give him a week to finalise on the negotiations between the defense and complainants in order to settle the matter outside the court.

The court heard that there were negotiations going on between the defense and the complainants and the matter would soon be settled.

The National Environment Management Authority (Nema) had sued Gikaria for dumping the waste in an area not designated for waste disposal.

He is said to have led a team of members of the public to dump crushed wines and spirits bottles at the Geoffrey Kamau Highway and KFA roundabouts.

Gikaria who denied the charges before Resident Magistrate Judicaster Nthuku was released on a bond of Sh300,000 with one person as a surety and an alternative cash bail of Sh200,000.

Nthuku directed that the case be mentioned November 2 and urged the parties to proceed with negotiations.
