Gilgil MP Samuel Nderitu has expressed gratitude’s after the national government resettled over 2,000 internally displaced persons in his constituency.
Speaking during the awarding of cheques ceremony on Saturday which was officiated by Deputy President William Ruto, Nderitu said the move had proved a milestone as far as realising campaign pledges was concerned.
“I remember in 2012 during campaigns at the same venue, the DP was here and promised to resettle all of you and today, he is here to officially close the camp,” he said.
The area MP regretted what befell the country during the disputed 2007 poll results saying it was his wish that the country would never go back to such a dark moment.
“Let’s forget what happened then and concentrate in building cohesion and healing because it is the right of every Kenyan to have a dignified livelihood,” Nderitu noted.
Meanwhile, he appealed to the constituents to take the El Nino threats seriously and move to safer grounds before the rains become too much.
“Among my worries was the IDP camp but now that it’s being disbanded, let none of you be part of the problem because we have enough time to take precautionary measures,” he warned.
The function was also attended by Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua, Ann Waiguru (CS Devolution), MPs Ferdinand Waititu (Kabete), Joseph Kiuna (Njoro) and Gilgil Ward MCA Jane Wangui.
