Gilgil youths have been urged to engage in small-scale businesses to help eradicate the rising levels of criminal activities in the area.

Speaking at Munanda centre after attending a sub-county security meeting, Gilgil police commander Serah Koki noted that the villages had a good number of young people who could make a difference by utilising their capabilities.

“Crime is a waste of time because it limits one's thinking. You cannot be innovative because all you want is to enjoy life using irresponsible lifestyles,” she said.

She urged parents to be vigilant on what activities the youth engage in behind their backs saying that the society was nurturing an unruly teenage generation because of ignorance.

According to the police boss, agriculture was the simplest form of investment because hard work and commitment are the only recipes for desired results.

“Our young people want to sit there waiting for white collar jobs while huge farms lay there unattended to. Make use of the numerous agricultural opportunities and you will never regret,” she advised.

She further called on the publics to exercise community policing which she touted to be the surest way of ensuring that what happens in villages gets to reach law enforcers and the perpetrators brought to book.

She promised to link willing youth with the county’s agricultural office for expertise advice and guidance on how to become independent by involving themselves in different profit yielding agricultural activities.
