An eight-year-old standard three pupil in Mombasa is searching for her parents after she was stolen and abandoned in Nyamira County.
Winrose Akinyi, a standard 3 pupil at Encyclopaedia Academy in Mombasa has been away from her family which lives in Mombasa for a month now.
In an interview with journalists in Nyamira, the girl said she would be happy to reunite with her family which she has missed so much.
“I have missed my family. My mum is Beldin Auma and my dad is Moris Keno. I will be happy if I am taken back home,” Akinyi said.
She says she was brought to Nyamira by a person who is not known to her.
Ms Dorcas Mabera has been staying with her ever since she came to her home accompanying her grandchildren after a church service.
Mabera says she reported the matter to the police on learning that the girl had come from Mombasa. She says the girl spent the night in the cold police cells. Nyamira children’s officer Mrs Purity Kamonya said the children’s home is full.
To save her from more suffering, Mabera says she was authorised to take care of her by the Children’s department until she reunites with her family.
“I have stayed with Akinyi for the last one month since she came home with my grandchildren who have since returned to Nairobi. If she reunites with her family, I will feel great because she is young and needs family care,” said Mabera.
