Kiambu deputy governor has said the county government should involve stakeholders in the liquor industry in making and enacting of the alcoholic act laws in a bid to curb the deaths caused by alcohol consumption.
Speaking in Thika Town on Friday, Kiambu deputy governor Gerald Githinji said that the loss of young men in the county has been brought about by lack of partnership between the administration and the stakeholders.
Githinji said that the only solution to regulating the sale of alcoholic drinks is involving the bar owners, retailers, wholesalers and manufacturers in setting up the rules and regulations of the acts, so as to ensure they implement them.
“If these people are involved in setting strategies, they will regulate the selling of the alcohol on their own as they will not accept other brewers to operate without licenses. We have to make them active in this sector in order to tame these deaths,” said Githinji.
The deputy governor said that he is saddened by the deaths of youths who could have been great people in the future if mentored.
He said he wishes not to witness any other deaths in his leadership caused by illicit brew consumption.
Githinji called on parents to educate their children to ensure they don’t indulge in such activities due to ignorance.
His sentiments were closely echoed by Hospital Ward MCA Mwangi Wamwangi who lauded his mother for modelling him into a better person.
